Phil is the son of saxophonist Bob Gustavson and learned to play growing up around working musicians playing Jazz, Blues and Rock. He moved on to become a DIY show promoter and music producer in Eastern Washington.

He now plays in the Seattle area and teaches guitar at the Seattle School of Rock.
